Amazon Purchase: Bonavita BV1800 8-Cup Coffee Maker W/ Glass Carafe
It is still in operation today and the initial thoughts on it was that it is made very well and works very well. It is a heavy duty product and the coffee comes out pretty damn hot.

I bought this pricey coffee maker as a Christmas gift for my Mom. I am not a coffee snob so although you may not think it not is expensive, it is much more than the Mr. Coffee products carried at the big box stores. The intrigue on this one was that the product was advertised to brew at super hot temperature of 205 degrees. My Mom would complain about other products not brewing hot enough coffee.
The hook to the sales page was that this was certified for quality and performance by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA). Meaning that the Exceptional Brew is equipment capable of brewing coffee to the exacting standards set by the SCAA. I bought it hook, line and sinker. The sales page is written brilliantly. Take a few minutes to read it and you may agree.
The Verdict: It is still in operation today and the initial thoughts on it was that it is made very well and worked very well. It is a heavy duty product and the coffee comes out pretty damn hot. Although hotter than the unit it replaced, somehow we though it would come out as a near boil – lol.
Our first test of the unit was in the winter and the temperature outside and inside was ball shivering cold. I told my Mom that perhaps the ceramic cups in the house were so cold that it slightly cooled down the brewed coffee. I suggested she should maybe microwave her mug a tiny bit before placing it under the unit to brew. That helped out as well.
She has since used many other types of contraptions and coffee makers that brew coffee in many different ways. This one still gets pulled out from under the cabinet for use. All other coffee makers in the house kind of get there fair share of use equally.
This model is no longer available and but of the key selling points was the class carafe. This maker does offer other models but it looks like none of them have the glass carafe.
That being said, I hunted for something I think would be comparable and I came across a 4 1/2 star reviewed unit made by Bunn that is used by restaurants. It is a 10 cup vs the 8, has the glass carafe and is a very good looking unit visually. It is also designed and assembled in the U.S.A. if that is important to you. It claims to brew fast as mofo at only 4 min for 10 cups!
